Sri Lanka produces – Ceylon Tea. One of the main export products, tea is grown in many areas in Sri Lanka. The area grown, soil type, temperature, wind conditions and rain influence – these climatic factors give rise to different tastes and qualities in the teas. Tea plantations abound, Sri Lanka has several tea districts, and the teas are named according to the district they are grown in:

  • Nuwara Eliya teas are cultivated at plantations at 6,000 feet or higher
  • Dimbulla and Dickoya teas grown at 3,500 feet or higher
  • UVA teas grown at 2,800 feet or slightly higher
  • Kandy and Morawaka Korale teas are grown at 2,500 feet or higher
  • Galle teas are grown in lower ground at sea level
